Desert, skyline and a stopover that grew into a holiday
Dubai suits couples with limited leave. Flights are short, the visa is quick, everything is in English and you can pack a genuinely varied trip into four or five nights without a single internal transfer.
The contrast is the appeal. A morning in the old creek quarter with its spice souks and abra crossings, an afternoon in the dunes, and an evening 500 metres up watching the fountains from above.
It also pairs beautifully as a stopover. Two nights in Dubai on the way to or from the Maldives, Europe or the Seychelles adds a completely different texture to a beach honeymoon for very little extra airfare.
Winter is the whole point. Days sit in the mid-twenties, evenings are perfect for terraces and the desert is comfortable rather than punishing. June to September is extremely hot and best avoided unless you are chasing hotel rates.
