The best honeymoon destinations in India, ranked by what you actually want

Snow, backwaters, beaches or desert forts — a straight comparison of India’s six best honeymoon regions, with the month to go and the number of nights each one needs.

Almost every list of Indian honeymoon destinations is the same list in a different order. This one is organised around the question that actually decides it: what do you want the trip to feel like, and how many days do you have?

If you want snow and drama: Kashmir

Kashmir is still the most spectacular honeymoon in the country and, per rupee, nothing comes close. The valley sits at 1,600 metres with peaks that hold snow into May, and the standard circuit of Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam gives you three completely different landscapes inside five nights.

  • Best months: April to May for blossom, September to October for clear air, December to February for deep snow
  • Nights needed: five, six if you want to add Sonamarg
  • Roughly: ₹50,000–₹65,000 per couple with a private car throughout

If you want to slow down: Kerala

Kerala is the gentlest honeymoon in India. The route runs from the tea estates at Munnar down through the spice hills at Thekkady to the Alleppey backwaters, finishing on the coast. The houseboat night — a full private charter with a crew and a cook — is the part everyone remembers.

It is also one of very few Indian itineraries that genuinely works in the monsoon. June to August is when Ayurvedic centres do their most serious work and the landscape is at its most extreme.

If you have three days: Goa

Goa gets dismissed as a honeymoon destination because people picture North Goa in December. South Goa in October or February is a completely different state: wide empty beaches, low-rise resorts and shacks that close by ten.

The trick with Goa is to sleep in the south and eat in the north. Do it the other way around and you spend the trip in traffic.

The honest comparison

  1. Kashmir — most spectacular, best value, needs five nights and some driving
  2. Kerala — most relaxing, works year-round, needs six nights
  3. Goa — easiest to book, works in three nights, least dramatic
  4. Rajasthan — best for architecture and heritage hotels, hot from March
  5. Andaman — closest thing to the Maldives domestically, but transfers eat two days
  6. Himachal — good in summer when Kashmir is busy, more variable accommodation

How many nights do you actually need?

The single most common planning mistake is booking four nights for a six-night itinerary. If a route involves more than two bases, five nights is the floor. Below that, cut a base rather than cutting the nights — you will spend the difference in the car.

Frequently asked

Which is the most affordable honeymoon destination in India?
Goa for short trips and Kashmir for longer ones. A five-night Kashmir itinerary with a private car throughout typically lands under ₹65,000 per couple, which is remarkable value for the scenery.
When is the best time for an Indian honeymoon?
October to March covers most of the country. Kashmir extends into May, and Kerala is genuinely good year-round including the monsoon.
